vertical

Addie is finally walking more than crawling to get around these days.

Regan took these pictures and I love the perspective on this one, its almost 3d.

I am loving the warmer weather these days and sending the kids out to play for hours at a time. On really good days (like today) we are finished school by 1pm or so and that leaves the bulk of the afternoon for play.

I have finally pulled out my granny square Afghan (that I started FOREVER ago) and really started to work on it. I've just been doing bits and pieces here and there, but I really want to finish it so I can move on to something else guilt free :) Here is my 100 squares, all the ends woven in and ready to be attached.

I am making 25, 4 square blocks (I think I've got about 9 to go) and then I will put one or two rows around each block before I attach them all together. I am not sure what color(s) I will use next. I am thinking purple, but I am not sure yet.
This is where I got the pattern for the granny squares, but mine will be a bit different than Lucy's I think.

Hope your week is a sunshiny as mine!

last minute sewing and a deep breath

This afternoon, after we finished up our school, I did a bit of last minute St. Patrick's day sewing. Tallulah was lamenting how she did not have anything green to wear and I remembered I had a yard of fun green floral seer sucker in my stash so I told her I would make her a skirt. Then, of course, Regan wanted me to make her something too and I was able to just eek out these shorts for her using the extra 1/2 yard.

For the skirts I did a basic elastic waist skirt with a small pleat a few inches above the hem. I think you can see the pleat if you click on the photo to enlarge it.For the shorts I used the PJ pant pattern from Weekend Sewing (I've made so many of those pants I don't even have to think about it anymore and I already had the pattern cut out) but just made shorts instead of pants. They come down to the knee, which Regan (and I) prefer. I lined the shorts since the fabric is very light weight.

I think both the girls are pleased with their new clothing and I know they will at least get one days wear, lol!

In other news. Some of you know this already, but we found out sometime last year that my husbands place of employments was going to be majorly downsizing (we are talking going from 6000 employees to less that 2000). We have been patiently waiting and seeking God for provision and direction over the last 6+ months and although we were never really worried, it has been challenging living in the unknown. I have wanted to share, but not known what to share so I have waited, and this week, we finally got the news. My husband is going to be able to keep his job! We are so thankful to be among the few who will remain, but also for the ways this past few months has pushed us to trust God and also live a bit more proactively.

weekending

While my husband mowed, aerated and seeded our yard this weekend I finished the backing for my quilt and (finally) mopped the kitchen floor so I could put my quilt sandwich together.

There was just barely enough room to spread the quilt out on the kitchen floor.
I had planned to start quilting today, but then I picked up The Glass Castle (it's been on my to read list for awhile and I recently picked it up at the library) and pulled myself away from it just long enough to enjoy a bit of sunshine outside while my husband and our friend (who lent us his equipment) loaded the aerator and tractor back onto his trailer. I am off to make some dinner and while away the rest of my weekend reading. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!

lying in wait

We had company over for dinner earlier this week...
This is how our children greeted them.
It ended up being a lovely evening, and hopefully our friends will come back again, despite the less than warm welcome from the natives :)

TIMBER!

We had three huge trees cut down today.

Thud!

Our yard was full of trucks...
and felled trees.

Two of the trees were rotten inside

And one had a massive bee hive in it.

Look at the honey oozing out if it! Unfortunately we could not taste it because the tree guys sprayed the hive in order to avoid a major swarm.
Check out the handiwork of the woodpecker in this piece.
It was pretty awesome to watch the trees fall. A definite adrenaline rush.

Here are some before and after pictures for you. Sorry some of them are a bit dark.

Wednesday

Ever have those times were you just don't seem to have anything to say? I guess that's how I've been feeling recently. I realized yesterday that I had pictures still on my camera from over a week ago and my M-I-L called the other night to make sure we were alright since I had not blogged in a week! Rest assured, we are all well. Just trying to slow down a bit and focus on getting the essentials done.
Today we are having a new door put in on the back of our house.
The old one was leaking and I recently found something growing through base trim of the stationary side of the door (only the door on the right opens).

Here's what was growing through the door. It was a pretty funny discovery.
Our new door is plant free (yay!).

Hopefully I will be back here sooner, rather than later! Happy Wednesday to you all!
