discouraged

Today... I'm tired, The plateau in my weight loss has reversed and I gained a pound, the thought of eating another egg nauseates me, and to top it all off, I really don't think that we are going to be able to afford to continue eating this way. It turns out it is quite costly to keep enough fresh produce in the house to feed 7 people, especially when it is one of the main sources of sustenance for the two biggest consumers. So now I am trying to figure out how I might modify our plans, so as not to totally give up, but just to make this little adventure more affordable. I've got til Friday to figure it out, as that is shopping day.

Got to go stop the baby from destroying the whole house while I type... we have reached that stage where if she is awake, she is getting into trouble. Her favorite spot? On top of any table :)

  1. Hi...I just found your blog and have to say that I love it(:

I wanted to share since you were talking about diets there is one called herbalife that a friend of mine is using and she has lost a ton of weight, another my MIL uses called the 1000 calorie diet(this one you eat 1000 calorie's and you dont have to keep track of fresh produce as their sugars and calories are natural)...she lost a ton doing this, but I am pregnant so I couldnt try it with her sigh...HTH

  2. amy, it IS expenisve. some "cheaper" veggie options. BIG bags of carrots, peel 'em yourself and 1/4 them. cucumbers? frozen peas?

as for eggs: they are my go to (fast easy, good source of protein)--i could eat them (and maybe sometimes do) 5 out of 7 mornings-- but probably if they were on a "diet" i'd DIE.

while i thoroughly believe in the idea of the whole 30, especially as a jumping off/starting point, i do believe there is a middle/doable ground. if you just decide that you won't eat any processed foods, you might make enough of a difference... although i don't know how much processed foods you eat in general. (i find this rule really works for me in the homemade sweets department--- if it isn't made form scratch, then i don't eat it--- or at least i had to WORK to make it and it's "better" for me than it's processed equivalent!)

i also now know that the Dutch eat potatoes and bread as their staples. EVERY breakfast and lunch involves bread and almost EVERY dinner involves potatoes, and they are a pretty lean nation.

i am interested and hoping you can find a solution. i was really interested in the results and if you could feel a mood/energy change.

i wish i could donate some red peppers from Holland for you!

    keep blogging :-)

  3. Hi Amy ... I am so sorry you are struggling. I will say we gave the whole healthy eating a try about a month ago. Though we are still following some of the diet - eating more fresh veggies and fruit overall it was just too expensive for us to continue.

I spoke with a friend who has three small children and asked what her weekly grocery budget was - $250 and that is for one 1st grader, a preschooler and a toddler. My kids are much older and eat twice as much as her children. There is no way we could spend $300+ a week on groceries from Whole Foods.

So, we are just modifying. Eating more fresh fruit and veggies from our garden and what is on sale at the store. Trying to cut out processed food as much as possible.

Good luck as you move forward! I know you will find the best fit for your family.
