Regan wrote her final paper for Essentials on Molly Pitcher, a Revolutionary War heroine. She will read her paper in front of the class tomorrow and is supposed to dress in character. This was a pretty easy costume to throw together. We lucked out and found the perfect dress in the first 2 minutes of being in the thrift store and for only $2! This morning I whipped up the apron from an old duvet cover. Nothing fancy, just a couple of rectangles and straps that tie around the back and neck.
A part of the Molly Pitcher story involves a British musket ball flying between her legs and tearing her dress, so as hard as it was, I took the scissors to the dress and apron and then let Regan go play in the back yard wearing the costume. Neither one of us wanted to cut the dress and apron, but for the sake of the presentation, we did it. Besides, the costume only cost me $2 and less than an hours work...
I just may have to make another dress and apron for the dress up bin that we keep looking nice :)

happy endings
This is our last week of Classical Conversations. I can't believe how quickly the year has flown by. Today Micah completed the tutor round of his Memory Master Proof. For those of you who are unfamiliar with CC, a Memory Master is a student who has mastered all the information we have learned over the course of the cycle (24 weeks) and can repeat, from memory, those facts. This is a list of what those facts included this cycle:
-The entire timeline of 160 events from creation to modern times;
-Twenty-four history sentences about U.S. history;
-Twenty-four science questions and answers covering human anatomy, chemistry, and origins;
-Multiplication tables through the fifteens plus squares and cubes, conversions, and math laws;
-All fifty states and their capitals plus seventy physical features on the U.S. map;
-Twenty-four definitions or lists from English grammar;
-Latin vocabulary lists and John 1:1–7 in Latin; and
-The forty-four U.S. presidents.
Today's test was the hardest part and he passed! Micah, we are so proud of you!!!
This weekend I had the pleasure of getting to put together this basket of goodies for the mom who coordinates our afternoon program for all the children not yet in Essentials.
And I finished up these bags for all my kids tutors and the nursery workers. If you want to make one yourself, check out Randi's tutorial. It's not exactly the same, but pretty close.
I made 10 different bags and they all turned out so cute- I wanted to keep them all for myself!!! They come together quickly too and make a great afternoon "I need to sew something" project :)

weekend crafting
We had a fun day of crafting on Saturday. Tallulah and I spent the morning making these peg people for a craft swap that she and Regan were doing.
And Regan made this house for Tallulah's Lala Loopsy minis
I spent the afternoon making some progress of tutor gifts for our CC co-op. 5 done, 5 to go!

this week...
my parents were here and these are just a few random photos of some of the things that happened while they were here...
My mom brought me these super cute mushroom salt and pepper shakers...
and this great stash of thread on wooden spools :)
My sister and her family were staying at the Great Wolf Lodge and we met them for dinner in Yorktown- of course I brought my camera and only managed to take one picture!
Mom helped me organize my linen closet- a job I have been avoiding for quite awhile now. (thanks mom!)
I started working on end of the year gifts for the tutors at out CC co-op
and finished up this embroidery project.
My mom made a few headbands like these that I made for Lu's 4th birthday party (I love how cute they look on those ruffly headbands, don't you?)
And Micah got braces!

free march embroidery pattern
I am a bit later than I had planned, but I finally have my March embroidery pattern finished! This one is my favorite so far. That flowery rectangle of fabric is the last sizeable piece of a vintage print I snagged from my mom years ago. One of my favorites :) I realized when I went to stitch the "arch" in March that it maybe was not the best choice for visibility of the letters, but I still love it. I can't take full credit for this block. It was inspired by something I saw online probably over a year ago. Unfortunately that was before I was on Pinterest, or even Tumblr so I have no idea where it was to reference it.
And here they are all together. It is so fun to see this project that has been in my mind for so long come to being!

Remember, if you stitch up your own version of my pattern I would LOVE to see it! Please share pictures in my Flickr group!

happy birthday!
Yesterday was my hubby's birthday.
We celebrated with a few friends and WAY too much food :)
Since he is now eligible to run for POTUS everything was red white and blue. It was hard to get a good picture of the whole room, but those ruffled streamers zig-zagged across the entire living room and dining room. Regan made the banner and decorated the chalkboard (above).
I am so blessed to be able to celebrate another birthday with this guy. He is the best husband a girl could ever ask for and a great dad to all these children we have running around here! Here's to many more birthdays celebrated between us! I love you, babe! Happy Birthday!

a quick little project
Putting the finishing touches on the bathroom has been a S.L.O.W. process... As in, I haven't done anything since I finished the shower curtain. We have not even installed the baseboards yet (luckily my dad is coming next week to put them in for us, yay Dad!). Anyway, the bathroom was needing some more red and I figured the hand towels would be an easy way to bring some more red into the room.
I have been thinking about this project for awhile now, wanting to sew scraps from my quilt onto hand towels, and then I saw Tasha's post last week. It was just what I had in mind. And the best part? She had figured out all the details for me! So in just a few minutes yesterday afternoon I whipped up this hand towel and now I am one step closer to finishing my bathroom :)
And just for fun... this is what 19 weeks pregnant looks like when you've already had 5 kids!
We find out next week if this baby is a boy or a girl! I'll be sure to share the big news as soon as we know!

last chance to enter the givaway and other randomness
Don't forget to enter to win a this small buttercup bag today. I will be drawing the winner tonight at 8pm.
We painted two more walls on Saturday. I think I am actually liking the all white walls. The room feels brighter already and I am excited about all the fun pops of color I will be able to put in the room!
I picked up this lamp at the thrift store a few weeks ago and am headed to the store today to pick up some spray paint. I will post the total lamp redo (shade and all) once it is all done.
I was going to post a few more things, but we are late for PE, so I better run. Be back first thing tomorrow with the winner for the giveaway!
