sewing for me

I just finished my first (and probably my last) ever laminate sewing project.  I found this cute Strawberry Fields laminate fabric 50% off at Fabric.com a couple weeks ago and quickly order 2 yards before it was all gone.  After all the sewing for other people I've been doing lately I decided it was time to sew something for myself.  My mom and I found the pattern for this tote bag in the $2.99 pattern section at Joann's and I thought it might make a good diaper bag.  In the end it may be a bit too big for a diaper bag- at least for me- I prefer a smaller bag- but it is still a fun, water proof tote bag!

As far as sewing with laminate goes- I think a simpler design might have been easier- and to complicate things I lined the bag with the laminate too, witch only made the whole process more challenging.  I tried the tips I read on line about using masking tape on the bottom of your sewing foot, but did not really find it helpful- the tape just peeled off onto the fabric.   There is a lot of puckering on lower inside loop of the handle- that top stitching was probably the hardest part.  At the end of the day, I am glad to be done with this bag so that I can move onto something a bit more fun to sew!

that's exactly how i feel...

Tallulah is getting over a pretty nasty little infection (we think it was a bug bite or sting that got infected) and although the symptoms have been gone for a few day, she is definitely still recovering...
the past few days we've found her asleep in various places by late afternoon.  This time she was sitting in the kitchen, patiently waiting for me to be ready for her to help with dinner.  It was pretty cute, when Adelaide realized that she was asleep she ran to their room to get Lulu's favorite doll, Lola :)

P.S. Don't worry, I did not leave her there, I moved her to the couch (wow, almost 6 year olds sure are heavy!) right after I snapped this picture :)

random tuesday

So, as if I have not had enough of sewing bunting, I made up this cute Riley Blake bunting and listed it in my shop today.

The hubby got all the kids working this weekend washing and waxing the van... everybody wanted to work when it involved getting on the roof of the van (even Addie cried when I said she could not get up there too) :)

We made these rainbow pudding pops last week- turns out they are prettier than they are tasty- but fun none the less!

where has may gone?

I can't believe it is the end of May and this is only my 6th post for the month!  Pretty pitiful, although not totally surprising.  I tend to get a little quiet and antisocial when I am pregnant, especially toward the end.  I've got 9 weeks left and am already getting comments like "you look like your ready to have that baby any day now!"  Which I guess is better than the "Nine weeks?  You're huge!" that you know they are thinking, lol!

Anyhoo, I just finished up a custom bunting order for a wedding.  The order included 10 different lengths of scalloped bunting ranging from 5-18 feet long and totaling about 100 feet!
(Don't you love my new chicken tray up there?  Picked it up at Homegoods while we were visiting my family in MD a few weeks ago... if I can't have chickens in my back yard, at least I can have them in my kitchen :)

This is a mini version of my standard size scallop that will go over the bride and grooms chairs and their menu board.
I really am going to try to be more faithful about posting.  It just seems like the last few weeks have had us running around like crazy and I've hardly picked up my camera let alone found any time to sit down and blog!  Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend- I know I have enjoyed a weekend of just staying home with the family!

sewing, sewing and more sewing

It's possible I went a little crazy sewing tote bags this weekend...
The stripped fabric came from Ikea and the popsicles are from Joann's.  The bags are all different sizes and are all lined (with the exception of the small popsicle bag).  My friend Dianna and I are hoping to get a table at the local flea market next months... if the coordinator ever calls me back!

I also made up a few zippered pouches

And am working on some more bibs.

getting away and catching up

We got home Sunday night from a week away visiting our families.
There were tea parties with Grandma Bev
Forts built with cousins
trips to the park
And much more!

When we got home one of our neighbors came to our door with a brand new car seat for the baby! We were blown away by their generosity.
The kids have loved hiding in the box (of course) and every time Addie sees the car seat she says "that's baby's car seat!"

I was really hoping to jump right back into the swing of things this week but am finding it is taking longer than I though to settle back in.  I have a long list of things I would like to be doing but am having a hard time finding the energy to do the things I need to do first!   Welcome to the 3rd trimester!

just popping in

This week has been flying by with a whirlwind of activities.  I am not sure I will make it back here before next week, but I thought I would just pop in with a couple pictures of what I've been working on when I get a minute here and there.

Meet Alice...
and Little Red.
These are 2 of the 4 doll patterns I bought from Gingermelon Dolls.  Next up The Little Mermaid and Snow White :)

curiosity

Tallulah and Adelaide must have spent at least 10 minutes here staring at this muddy spot in the grass...
And just what were they studying so intently?
This tiny little ant-hill-in-progress, no bigger than a dime.

log cabin baby quilt

I have a long list of things I should be doing, but instead I decided to cut into that stack of fabric I got a few weeks back.  I have been wanting to try making a log cabin quilt for awhile and this stack of fat quarters seemed perfect for it.  It will be a baby quilt- and will have ten 11" squares.  Not sure if I will use any sashing between the squares- I am just kinda making this up as I go along :)
