breakfast, sneek peaks and rare conditions

Well, I am not sure you would consider this breakfast... more like dessert, but since I ate it at 8:00 am I am calling it breakfast!

We went strawberry picking again yesterday and the berries are better then ever this week. It was hard to stop picking, even though my bucket was full! Someone was talking about crepes recently and I realized it has been awhile since I made any, and with fresh strawberries around, what better time then now? Lucky for me, Phil was going out with a friend for breakfast and the boys did not want to wait for the crepes to be ready, so that meant Regan, Lulu and I had a whole batch of crepes for our selves! You can find my recipe here. Since it was just me and the girls eating I cut the recipe in half. It made about a dozen crepes. Since they were all filled with berries, chocolate chips and whipped cream, they were very filling!

Future Prima ballerina

We are three weeks away from Regan's Spring Dance Concert. She will be dancing in two numbers this year, one ballet and one tap. The theme of the show is Seasons and Regan will dance to "You are the sunshine of my Life" in Spring and to "Fabulous" in Summer. She got her costumes this week and could not wait to try them on for Daddy and have me take pictures. It is going to be a challenge to keep her out of these costumes for the next three weeks!

My kitchen floor in rare condition. I actually put this picture here for me, to remind myself that at one point, the kitchen floor actually was clean! I think it may have even lasted a full 24 hours! I still have not figured out what the previous owners were thinking when they put in this cream colored floor in an eat in kitchen? Clearly they did not have kids! Oh, well, in my dream kitchen my floor will always look this good since it will come complete with a live in kitchen fairy who lives to mop my floor and loves to cook for our family :)

Preschool picnic

Max's end of year picnic was on Wednesday. It is a big event for the kids and the whole family is invited to participate. There was a moon bounce, petting zoo, bubbles, mini golf, lawn bowling and all sorts of other outdoor activities all followed by Pizza and cookies on the front lawn of the church. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm, but not hot. A good time was had by all, and Daddy even got to come for lunch! On the way home Max asked "If I go to preschool next year will I be able to do this picnic again?" When I answered "yes", he said "I want to go to preschool again next year!" He still has two days of class left and next Thursday officially graduates from the 3yr old class! We will miss Mrs. Beaman next year, but will be sure to come and visit often!

Regan was in school last year when Micah had his picnic and did not get to go. Needless to say, she was thrilled to be able to ride a pony this year!

I heart buttons

So, I have a thing for buttons. I don't know what it is, but I just love them! All the colors, shapes and sizes. I even like buttoning and unbuttoning things. Okay, so that last one is a little strange, but what can I say, I heart buttons!

Anyway, I have been seeing these button flowers around and wanted to give them a try myself. So, last night when we sat down to watch American Idol (I also heart David Cook!), and I did not have any laundry to fold or iron or any other TV watching jobs to do, I decided to pull out my buttons and have some fun! Isn't the ladybug so cute?

Donuts!

Today we tried our hand at donut making. I got the recipe from this blog. I think I have heard it said somewhere that how messy you are when you cook is a sign of your cooking ability (the messier the better) or maybe I just made that up since I always seem to make an enormous mess in the kitchen. Making these donuts required me to clean the kitchen 3 time!Technically they are called Filhos, Portuguese donuts.

Other news
The school year is winding down, only a few more chapters to go in History, almost finished our LA's workbooks and I think we have covered almost all the math concepts Regan needs for 1st grade. We are finishing up money and will cover measurement before we finish for the summer. I ordered Regan's CAT test and after reading through it, I think she is ready take it. We will start later this week and do a section or two a day until we finish it up. Once that is done I think we will be officially finished with our first year of homeschooling!!!!!
I will spend the majority of our summer sitting by the pool and planning our curriculum for next year. We will still spend lots of time reading and Micah, who's new found love is math, will probably make it at least part way through his Math 1-2 workbook.

Just for fun
Here is a card I made last night for a family in our church. I think it turned out pretty cute. Phil said he thinks it would cost at least $10 at Papyrus. I told him it actually cost much more than that in our house since I spent all my b-day money on stamp supplies and this was the first card I had made with them. :( I am working on getting my supplies organized so that they will be more easily accessible and more frequently used. Wish me luck!

The tooth fairy is on her way!

Regan's tooth came out this morning!

Last night the kids went to the YMCA for Parent's Night Out and Phil and I got to have a date! It has been so long since we had 3+ hours alone together that we did not know what to do with ourselves! I guess it was a good prep for our get-away next month. We booked a room at an Inn is the Outer Banks for the middle of June and a couple at our church has graciously offered to watch all of our kids for two night! They have no idea what they are getting themselves into!
Anyway, it was a late night for the kids and they were all tired when we picked them up (except for Lulu, who gets her second wind around 9pm, she was laughing and dancing around the house when we got home)! We put everyone to bed and around 10:00pm we were hearing banging from the girls room. When I went in to check on them, Regan had her radio on and her Ikea flower light and was dancing around the room. When I told her it was late and and they needed to turn everything off and go to bed, Regan replied "I was just trying to get some exercise!"

I couldn't resist posting these pictures of Tallulah with her ruby red slippers going "pee pee on Pahee". She is always excited about sitting on the potty, but usually waits until she gets down to then pee all over the carpet!

The thing is, she is so cute, I just can't get mad at her!
