bummer

I just got back from the fabric store a little bit ago.  I bought something like 26 yards of Christmas fabric for two craft parties I am trowing this month.  We will be making fabric covered wreaths (a quick search on Pinterest will give you all sorts of inspiration for these wreaths).  Next I get to cut all this fabric into 2 inch strips and press them in half :)

So, here is the bummer... over the weekend I made up a sample wreath and was planning to sit down tonight and make some more flowers to put on it, but, long story short, the wreath got dropped one to many times pre-decorating and when is slipped out of my hands this afternoon and hit the wood floors this happened :(
So,  now I've got to get another wreath and start all over.  Well, at least I am getting some good practice at wreath wrapping :)

a new dress for adelaide

Dianna and I had a sewing night last week and I made this dress for Addie.  Actually, I messed up on the dress, and sewed it together backwards (this is what happens when I try and sew and socialize at the same time).  There are supposed to be two buttons on the yolk front, but instead they are on the back.  Also, the shoulder seams are a bit toward the front instead of on top of the shoulders, but Addie didn't even notice my goof up.  It still turned out pretty cute and was relatively easy (I was able to finish the dress in one evening).  The pattern is McCall's M6388, view D, in case you are interested.

girls night

Last night my friends Dianna and Kaeli and I got together for a little crafty fun.  These are the awesome ladies that I do all my craft shows with and who are always up for a late night of crafting.
We were all in need of a fun new pin cushion so we decided to pull out all our scraps and make these.
One of my favorite things about crafting with a group is seeing how different each persons projects turn out!  We didn't quite finish them before we called it quits (sometime after midnight) but here is the almost done photos of all three...
and here is mine, all stitched up and ready for pins :)

monday

We dropped Regan off at camp this morning.  She is officially way to cool for me- I could hardly even get her to come down from her bunk and say good bye to her baby sister let alone me!  Her counselors seemed nice and I am sure she is having a blast.  Usually she doesn't want to leave when we pick her up at the end of the week :)  The boys go next week and they are asking to pack their bags already!

Thanks to Sew Mama Sew's post today I found myself completely sucked in to The Great British Sewing Bee.  I plugged in the headphones and watched two episodes this afternoon while I worked on finishing up July.  All I've got left is to stitch the letters on and I will be done!  So, if I find another chunk of time soon I just might have the pattern up by weeks end!

I totally dropped the ball on photographing Craft Night (again). The couple of pictures I did take are so dark they are not worth sharing.  I've really got to figure out how to take decent pictures in here at night.  Anyway, 15 people came and together they made 20+ bracelets.  I think everyone had a good time. I would love to do this craft again, it really was fun (addicting too!)

late night craft prep

In order to make the fabric choosing process easier for Craft Night I am pre-cutting the the fabric into 2 inch squares.  So far I have made it through 3, gallon sized ziploc bags full of scraps- only 4 to go.  In the end I hope to have some where around 300-400 squares cut out... guess you know what I'll be doing for the next couple of days!

a random post with a room update and crafty business

My mom came to visit last week and brought a set of Ikea bunk beds for Regan and Tallulah- their room feels so much bigger now- you can actually see (some of) the floor!

After we got the beds together we realized that the under-the-bed drawers Regan had been using for her clothes were not going to fit under the bottom bunk (bummer). So, we stopped in the local Good Will to see if they had any dressers, and look what they had just put out on the floor!  $25 for this solid wood dresser that has lots of awesome details.  It needs to be stripped and repainted, but for now it will do as is.

On to the craftiness...I have been busy preparing for another craft night this weekend (we are making fabric covered button bracelets and I've 15-20 people coming!) and I am getting ready for 2 kids craft camps in August.  Here are the details on the craft camps for any locals who's kids might be interested:

Kids Craft Camp
Who and When:
There will be two camps from 9 a.m. to noon on the following days:
Camp 1—girls and boys ages 5–9; Tuesdays, August 6, 13, 20, and 27
Camp 2—girls ages 10 and up; Thursdays, August 8, 15, 22, and 29*
What the kids will be making:
The younger kids (Camp 1) will do a variety of activities, including freeze paper stenciled T-shirts, softies, utility aprons, balloon bracelets, art canvases, and even some baking.
The older kids’ (Camp 2) activities will be more themed: On weeks 1 and 4, we will be making jewelry, accessories, and freeze paper stenciled T-shirts, and on weeks 2 and 3, we will be making décor items like a wood pennant bunting and felt flower mobile.
Cost: $100 for all 4 days ($25 for an individual class). All supplies and snacks are included, with the exception of week 4 when the kids will need to bring a blank T-shirt for decorating.
*For the younger group (Camp 1), I have an assortment of crafts that will be fun for both boys and girls, but for the older group (Camp 2), the activities will be mostly geared toward girls (sorry to any 10 and up boys out there who want to craft; if there is enough interest, I will consider doing some boy craft/sewing classes in the future!).

craft night

Craft night was a little different this time around.  In addition to the crafting and yummy food we also watched the videos from the (in)RL conference and talked a lot about community. We crafted into the wee hours (I think the last ladies left about ten after midnight) and everyone went home with their own beautiful and unique bunting. Here are a few pictures from our evening.  (Sorry they are a bit dark- the lighting isn't very good for nighttime picture taking in my house!)

Can't wait for the next craft night!  May will be a BYO craft project and I've got something else fun planned for June.

april craft night

CRAFT NIGHT!!!! Saturday April 20th,  7pm

I've order supplies and have room for 5 more people for this months craft night. We will be making wooden pennant banners, something like these ones Meg did at one of her Craft Weekends.
There will be a small charge that will cover all the supplies to embelish your own 10 piece wooden pennant banner using fabric, paper, or paint.

If you are local and interested in coming email me for more details.  Since supplies are limited this time I will need RSVP's by the 18th.

craft night

I had great intentions about taking lots of pictures and blogging about all the fun we had a craft night... and then at 11pm I realized I had taken not one picture!  Oops!  Half of the girls had gone home already, but I did manage to snap 4 pictures before everyone else left!  It was a great evening full of pizza, desserts, laughter and sewing.  I can't wait to do it again! (And I promise to do a better job of documenting it next time!)

And this is what stopped me from blogging those 4 pictures last week... a sick Addie :(  Poor girl was a mess all week!  This was the second day in a row she fell asleep on a chair in the kitchen.
This past weekend I sewed up 8 more baskets (these are seriously addictive) for the tutors at CC.

shop update and craft night

I am sure you are tired of seeing these aprons by now, but I finally got 1/2 of them in the shop (along with a couple other baby items) and am labeling the others to drop off at Kitsch

In other news, after talking about it for over a year, I finally planned my first Craft Night.  It will be here, at my house, on Saturday night.  We will be using Ayumi's free tutorial to make these scrappy fabric baskets (these are ones I made years ago for Tallulah's preschool teacher and director).  It should be a fun evening full of food, fabric and fellowship- really, does it get any better than that?
I am hoping to make this a regular thing with all kinds of crafts, not just sewing. I'll post pictures on Monday!
