mischief of one kind and another

while I snuck in an hour of sewing this afternoon, the kids were...

standing on tables
(don't worry, the iron is not on and I grabbed Addie off the table right after I took this picture)

and blowing bubble in the house

with the fan

When I said to Regan "Do we blow bubble in the house?" in my "haven't we talked about this 1000 times, mommy voice" she quickly responded that they were using the soap bubbles to clean the floors, hence why Tallulah is frantically wiping the floors with a paper towel in the pictures. Her excuses creativity never ceases to amaze me :)

multi-tasking

This is how Addie has been walking around the house this afternoon...

Not sure who she is talking to, but it is definitely an engaging conversation :)

easter preparations

There are certain things we all associate with different holidays, you know, the things that make the celebration feel complete. For me, as far as Easter is concerned, I can think of a few must have's/do's. One is having my mom's homemade Peanut Butter Eggs (I had to make these myself this year for the first time, since we will not be traveling to MD for Easter.) and (store bought) Peeps. (I should add in here that every year, without fail, my mom makes homemade marshmallow, cuts it out in Easter-like shapes and covers in in Chocolate. It is delicious, but the PB eggs are my favorite, so I usually end up trading my marshmallow for more PB eggs.)

Another one of my favorite things about Easter (probably at the top of the list) is singing Christ the Lord is Risen Today at church. At our church in MD they had a full choir, large pipe organ and orchestra; add the powerful lyrics and swell of the congregation singing and it is it quite awesome. Although it will be different in our little church tomorrow, the words we sing and the truth they proclaim is no less awesome.

And last but not least, dying eggs is definitely a "must do" tradition.
This last one was our pièce de résistance, a rainbow egg. I bought the cheap dye at the dollar store, so our colors are not super bright, but you get the idea :)

Hope you all are having a wonderful Easter weekend!

i heart rainbows

My granny square blanket is finished (well, almost, I still need to weave the ends in on the back, but from the top it looks done so for now I am going to pretend that it is done)!
100 squares, turned into 25 blocks, crocheted together in purple and my favorite part...
the ruffle-y, rainbow-y border!
It only took me 2 years and 3 months to complete. Not too bad considering I made another blanket during that time and could not crochet for almost a whole year b/c my tendinitis was so bad for Addie's first year of life. I also find solace in the fact that my mom started a blanket when she was in my stage of life (a house full of young children) and she just completed it a year or two ago, 40 some years after she started it. By her standards I am doing really good :)

a boy and his book

Just back from the library and he's already cozied up with his newest book. (Percy Jackson, Battle of the Labyrinth, in case you are wondering.)

mission accomplished

Garden prepared and planted. I can almost taste those July tomatoes now :)
Thanks to my hubby and kids for all their hard work this weekend.

P.S. I am so close to finishing my granny square blanket! Just a couple more nights of leaving the laundry unfolded so I can finish the ruffly edge. :) Hopefully I'll be back with pictures sometime this week.

grateful for...

Kind words from friends and strangers
Meals brought by friends
Ice cream and cupcakes
Waking from a nap to find flowers on my dining room table...
just a few (of the many) things I am thankful for these days.

big plans

We are hoping to beat the rain that it headed our way tomorrow afternoon and get the garden planted.

It's not a huge garden, 4' x 8', just big enough for a few tomato plants, some zucchini and herbs.

But we moved it to a new location this year and are starting from scratch.
We've got our work cut out for us!

the unexpected

I wrote this (short) post yesterday but am just posting today...

I had hoped to be coming here today with pictures share... but instead I am here living the hard eucharisteo. I went in for my 10 week prenatal visit... but there was no heartbeat... I am still processing this all, wondering how I will tell my children tonight, that they will not get to meet their littlest brother or sister... I am finding my way between mourning and thanksgiving as I wait...

back to the grind

Today it is sunshine-y and 80 some degrees outside... and of course we had to get back to school. It was a painful 4 hours (which should have only taken 2)- everyone so anxious to get out and enjoy the sunshine that they could not stay focused and get school done! We finally finished at 2pm and the kids finished up this kite they had been working on and headed out to fly it.

They did not have much luck getting it to fly, but I think they had fun making it :)
After the kite they moved on to popsicles and the sprinkler.

This morning, around 10am Regan opened all the windows in the house, by lunch time there was a fine yellow dust covering every surface in the house. I spent 20 minutes wiping down the kitchen, but there is just no way to get it all! Spring is officially here :)

Hopefully I will be back tomorrow with some pictures of something I've been working on...stay tuned.

lazy saturday

My parents left early this morning and other than making pancakes and cleaning the kitchen I've done nothing but relax all day. My hubby took the kids to the park while I took a nice nap and now I am crocheting the last 3 blocks onto my blanket...
After that all that's left is a ruffle-y, rainbow-y border (and weaving in the ends, of course)!

buttercup's for the teachers

My parents have been here all week and we have been busy getting things ready for our CC, year end celebration, tonight. It was really nice having extra help getting all the artwork ready to be displayed, making a costume for Max (his class is presenting on Geography and they are supposed to dress like someone from the country they represent), and keeping the house running while I spent an afternoon sewing up teacher gifts! (We are also enjoying a new (un-cracked) sidewalk. Thanks Mom and Dad!)

Anywho, I thought I would share some pictures of a few of the teacher gifts I made yesterday. I used Rae's free buttercup pattern, only adding a button and loop closure instead of a magnetic snap. The fabric is Parisville (I think).

And just for fun, check out the rain boots I scored for $4.56 at Target today! Last pair and in my size!
