shop update and craft night

I am sure you are tired of seeing these aprons by now, but I finally got 1/2 of them in the shop (along with a couple other baby items) and am labeling the others to drop off at Kitsch

In other news, after talking about it for over a year, I finally planned my first Craft Night.  It will be here, at my house, on Saturday night.  We will be using Ayumi's free tutorial to make these scrappy fabric baskets (these are ones I made years ago for Tallulah's preschool teacher and director).  It should be a fun evening full of food, fabric and fellowship- really, does it get any better than that?
I am hoping to make this a regular thing with all kinds of crafts, not just sewing. I'll post pictures on Monday!

Monday

After we finished up school I spent the afternoon/evening finishing up more aprons.

15 total- in three sizes: 5-7, 8-10, and 12-16.  I'll be taking some up to Kitsch this week and putting the rest in The Plaid Hedgehog as soon as I get them photographed.  When my fabric order arrives  this week I will be making a few more adult aprons too.

While I sewed, the girls had a "car wash" on the deck.  Loving this spring weather we've had the last few days, hoping it's here to stay!

I also added three sets of hand-turned bottle stoppers that my father in law made to my shop over the weekend.  He really does beautiful work.

what we've been up to

I so want to be posting here more often, but just have not been able to make it happen.  Anyway, here is a peek at just a bit of what has been going on around here since my last post...

I had a birthday (I am 37, for anyone who's dying to know). We also celebrated 13 years wedded bliss (no pictures, sorry).  I am thankful for everyday with my wonderful husband!

I've stated teaching sewing again.  This was the girls second project, I did not photograph the first, but they made these into pin cushions.  They are working on tote bags now and after that they will do aprons.
(funny thing about this picture is Regan is actually a whole year older than her friend- my friends all towered over me when I was her age too, actually, at 5'3" many of my friends still tower over me today :)

Emmaline is rolling all over the house- this is where I found her (half way under the couch) after leaving the room for just a couple minutes the other day.

She also cut her first tooth on February 22.

I did find a few moments to sew a couple baby things for a friend (and some to put in the shop as soon as the sun decides to shine so I can photograph them!)

I spent the better part of 3 hours cutting out a pile of aprons last night- now if I can just find some time to sew them I can add them to the shop too.

I'll end with this bittersweet photo of Emmaline, after her first night of sleeping in the crib in Addie's room.  You have no idea how hard it was for me to put her to bed across the hall from me instead of at the foot of my bed, but she is just too big to sleep in the cradle anymore :(

in keeping with the hedgehog theme...

I have been working on a plaid hedgehog t-shirt design for the shop.  This is my latest version.
He is on his way to Colorado now, for my friend's little boy.  She did an awesome job on our shop graphics and is getting some of our first outfits for her kids :)
Here are a couple of my other attempts.

My newest is definitely my favorite so far, but I still might try a couple more design ideas.  What do you think?
p.s. I have a few outfits to put in the shop, I just need to get them photographed and listed.  I will let you know as soon as they are up.  I am also working on some children's aprons, but it may be a little bit longer before I get them posted.

sneak peak

My friend Jess did an AWESOME job with all the graphics for my new Etsy shop! I've got the shop set up, now I just need to finish some sewing and list some items!

figuring it all out

I am trying to slow down a bit, enjoy all the little things, and not constantly feel like I've got something I have to be doing (not an easy task when your homeschooling 6 kids and trying to run a business!).  As I result, business stuff is often getting pushed aside for every day life.  My friend Dianna  and I spent a few hours last week sewing some lounge sets.  I took these one's over to Kitsch this week, but we are hoping to put some in our new Etsy shop soon. (can't wait to show you the beautiful artwork my friend Jess is doing for us!)

I also made a few more camera straps for Kitsch.
I love the Matryoshka dolls.  You will definitely be seeing more of those girls :)

new camera straps in the shop

I just added a handful of new straps to the shop.  It's not too early to start your holiday shopping, and don't forget, everything in the shop ships for free now!

shop talk

I've been busy doing some different Handmade by Amy work this week.  There is a local shop, Kitsch, in Norfolk that sell all handmade in Virginia wares and I am going to be putting some of my camera straps and bunting in the shop!  I am super excited!  I am also working on some more masculine or gender neutral camera straps (sorry, no pictures of those, I am still waiting on some of the fabrics I ordered to come in).  And the biggest news is the change I made in my Etsy shop, starting today all items Ship for FREE, cause who doesn't love free shipping?

random tuesday

So, as if I have not had enough of sewing bunting, I made up this cute Riley Blake bunting and listed it in my shop today.

The hubby got all the kids working this weekend washing and waxing the van... everybody wanted to work when it involved getting on the roof of the van (even Addie cried when I said she could not get up there too) :)

We made these rainbow pudding pops last week- turns out they are prettier than they are tasty- but fun none the less!

scrap busting

I am working on a large custom bunting order and my customer wants a mini version of my scalloped bunting, so yesterday pulled out my scraps and sewed up this mini bunting as a test run.  Regan asked if she could buy it from me, so I guess that means it turned out okay :)

While I was digging through the scrap bins I decided to throw together one of these Sleepy Time Doll Quilts, just for fun.

I love the little animals peeking out over the top of the patchwork. You can buy the pattern here.  For this one I just did some lazy stitch in the ditch machine quilting, but I will hand quilt my next one...
Yep, It was so fun to put this together I am already planning another- totally different color scheme.  I'll be sure to post pictures when I am done.  And somewhere in there I will find time to work on that custom bunting order too :)
